About this property

Welcome to Monterey Beach Hotel, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel

Monterey Beach Hotel, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel, is a stylish coastal property situated directly on Monterey Bay, offering guests easy access to a secluded beach and beautiful ocean views. The hotel features fashionable rooms equipped with thoughtful amenities such as Lavazza coffee bars, mini-fridges, and binoculars, designed with comfort and function in mind. While some guests appreciate the layout and cozy atmosphere, others note that the ocean-view rooms can lack privacy due to a walkway outside the windows, and the decor leans toward a slightly retro motel style.

The hotel includes a range of facilities aimed at various needs, including a bay-view restaurant called The Lantern Room, an outdoor pool, hot tub, fitness center, and a business center. Services such as free Wi-Fi, paid parking, and pet-friendly accommodations add to the convenience, though parking fees are considered pricey by some visitors. Notably, the property offers small thoughtful touches such as evening s’mores kits and an automated wine bar in the lobby, which have been well received in reviews.

Located about 3 miles from Monterey Regional Airport and close to key attractions like the Monterey Bay Aquarium, Old Fisherman’s Wharf, and Point Lobos State Natural Reserve, this hotel suits travelers interested in exploring the Monterey area’s natural and cultural highlights. The property's setting provides a quieter alternative to more crowded downtown locations, appealing to visitors seeking a peaceful beachfront experience with easy access to local points of interest.

Guest feedback reflects satisfaction with the service quality and overall location, with particular praise for front desk staff and pet-friendly policies. However, some remarks mention the high cost of in-room bottled water and limited vegetarian options in the restaurant menu. The hotel’s 3.9 rating based on nearly 5,000 reviews suggests a positive but pragmatic experience, well-suited for visitors valuing coastal views and onsite amenities over ultra-modern design.

I had such a wonderful experience at Monterey Beach Hotel. The staff was super accommodating and the amenities are great. Staff allowed me to check in early, check out late (and even extended the late check out when my whale watching tour ran late), and gave us 4 glasses of wine on the house for my birthday. The nightly smores was an awesome little treat, and the location is absolutely beautiful. Would absolutely recommend and will surely be staying again. Parking is a bit pricey at $56/night, however, given the rest of the experience I did not mind paying for that at all.

The service here is very good and the views are excellent. I want to mention sheevani at the front desk. She was quick and very helpful. The restaurant was good with well timed food delivery and was able to accommodate my wife’s allergies. The ocean rooms also don’t offer any privacy if you open the shades, the walkway is directly in front of the window. I will say they charge a lot for the water in the room, $9!, so bring your own water.

I had an overnight stay at the Monterey Beach Hotel, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel as a Christmas gift from a friend. We had such a wonderful experience! Sheevani (Front Desk) warmly greeted us and smiled as my friend told her this was a Christmas gift to me. She was able to get us early check in for the 1st room and when we were able to check into the 2nd room, we were greeted by a beautiful charcuterie platter and a bottle of local wine in the room. What a wonderful surprise! The room also comes with a wine card where you can pour your own glass in the lobby with a swipe of the card. Nice touch and my friend enjoyed her wine when we had dinner at the Lantern Room. We had 2 ocean front rooms, and the layout of the rooms are fantastic! Wonderful L shaped sofa facing the ocean with a table. Cozy heater right under the window and the window shades are great as you can choose a white filter pull down or a blackout pull down. The coffee bar in the room features Lavazza coffees and I always love a mini fridge. There was a clothes steamer and hair dryer in the room along with a pair of binoculars. They really thought of everything when designing this room. After dinner we went back to the Front Desk and Rebecca gave us a complimentary s'mores kit. The firepits outside are just wonderful and there is plenty of seating across the property. What a fun way to enjoy the evening by the ocean listening to the waves, looking up at the sky and eating a delicious treat! The next morning, I went to the Front Desk to ask for a late check out. Sheevani was there again, and I was happy so I could ask her if she had the charcuterie board and wine sent. She said she did as she wanted to enhance my gifted stay. She was able to give us a late check out and we enjoyed our day at the beach to the hilt! I will be back many times for overnight recharge for myself or bringing a friend or family. I have already told friends about this property, and I will keep recommending it! Thank you for having such fantastic ambassadors like Sheevani and Rebecca to make me feel like such a valued and welcomed guest. They made our experience absolutely wonderful!!

This was a beautiful ocean side hotel! (with a tinge of jankiness) We happened to get an ocean facing room, and the view was lovely, you almost feel like you're one with the ocean. The hotel is on a secluded beach, and from your room, you could see and hear the waves of the ocean (but it could be quite loud for some people). The rooms on the opposite side of the hotel seem to be facing a home depot and/or a parking lot and they had a very dingy view. The staff members at this hotel were super friendly. And the front desk also offers marshmallow kits for you to roast by the fire pits near the ocean. It was a bit cold, but standing beneath a galaxy of stars, listening to the waves crashing ashore, and watching the flames dance around the fire pit, was quite an enjoyable experience. Plus the hotel offers free wine credits for drinks at the bar, so it's a nice and warm place to retreat to after your marshmallow adventures. But there are some negatives to this lovely place. Although it didn't bother us much, we do think it's time for the hotel to do a little bit of upgrading. First, our room was super humid and moist, even in the middle of December. There were random puddles of water in the room, and we were unsure where they came from but the ceiling wasn’t leaking. The light switches didn’t work when you first walked into the room, so if it’s dark, you’re tripping and slipping to the easiest light switch, which is towards the back of the room. The sink was super janky and the handle came off everytime we pushed it up to turn the water on. And the sink had no water pressure at all, it was basically a small little drizzle. And the bathroom was SO small and SO tight. I'm bumping into the door, the toilet, the shower, the towel bar, and everything in between, everytime I open the door to leave. And to give some reference, I'm a rather thin girl, I'm 5'2 and less than 115 pounds. Also the pillows were SO flat... flatter than concave walls, with no fluff, and that was quite uncomfortable to sleep on. Oh and also, parking was a whooping $56.90/day, which is more expensive than parking when we went to Hawaii... And, when we asked for maintenance, the front desk staff said they'd show up in about 5 minutes, but they never came. But overall, the resort was very nice, quiet, and spacious. My family, my partner, and I enjoyed our stay here, though, there's some things that could use a little bit of refreshment.

California Coast’s Best-Kept Secret This was our first trip to Monterey, and staying at Monterey Beach Hotel made it truly unforgettable. We’re from Southern California and love our beaches, but there was something really special about this spot. The location is absolutely fantastic — right on the beach with direct access, yet incredibly peaceful and quiet. It feels tucked away from the crowds while still being just a few minutes from downtown Monterey, making it easy to explore restaurants, the wharf, and even take a quick drive over to Carmel for the afternoon. What really exceeded our expectations was how genuinely pet-friendly the hotel is! We traveled with our dog, and she had the best time. The staff treated her like a VIP guest — it’s rare to find a place that doesn’t just allow dogs but truly welcomes them. The service overall was exceptional. The concierge text service was such a modern and convenient touch, making everything from questions to requests seamless. We also loved the automated wine bar and daily wine vouchers - sitting in the ocean-view lounge each evening with a glass of wine while listening to the waves became one of our favorite parts of the trip. The rooms are beautiful yet comfortably designed, which made the whole stay feel elevated yet relaxing. Honestly, we can’t say enough wonderful things about this hotel. It made our first Monterey visit so special that we’re already planning our next trip — and bringing friends with us next time. The only thing we found ourselves wishing for was a small outdoor dog rinse station to wash off beach sand before heading back to the room (especially since the rooms are so nice!). That said, the handheld shower sprayer did make post-beach cleanups manageable. Overall, this place is a true gem on the California coast, and we cannot wait to return.

Perfect location right on the water, steps to the beach and a short walk to Cannery Row and the Aquarium. Ocean-view rooms are stunning. The restaurant is excellent, and the complimentary evening drinks + s’mores kits are a delightful bonus. Rooms are comfortable and clean but have a cozy, slightly retro motel vibe. Overall, a very enjoyable stay — the location, food, and little perks easily outweigh the dated room style. Great coastal getaway.

We enjoyed our stay, rooms were clean and comfortable. We had ocean view, so there's always sound from the waves which I enjoyed but for some it might be too much. The access to beach is great. Pool and wellness center with cold plunge and sauna were good. The resturant didn't have much options for vegetarian and menu was a bit overpriced. I would recommend having breakfast at the Butter house or nearby by breakfast places.

Had a blast celebrating my birthday here! Yes it’s pricey but you got the best location with insane ocean views and best service! Ava and Vivian were both so nice and helpful! The resort fee includes 2 hours of free e-bike rental that was enough for us to explore the town through the beautiful coastal bike path! Complimentary smore kits and wines included too! Great value! Would definitely come back!
